China's economic importance to NZ in 2010 - July 2010
China is a major 21st century partner for New Zealand, the country's economic importance to New Zealand is vast. China is New Zealand's second largest export market, exporting NZ$4.0 billion; they are New Zealand's second largest source of imports at NZ$6.0 billion and also our second largest trading partner with a total of NZ$10.0 billion.
New Zealand already has a good trade relationship with the Chinese and is one of the first developed country to enter many "first" political engagements with China. New Zealand was the first to start and finish World Trade Organisation bilateral negotiations; we're the first to recognise China as a market economy; the first to start and sign the Free Trade Agreement between China and a developed nation; and again this year, New Zealand was the first to sign another FTA with Hong Kong. Much like the New Zealand "firsts", Biolife New Zealand has established many "firsts" of our own in the Chinese market over the past decade.
