Collaboration with Hochdorf

The year 2008, marked another significant milestone for Biolife NZ. Biolife NZ is determined to continuously provide improved products to their customers and extend their current product portfolio, and as a result a new successful collaboration between New Zealand and Switzerland will see Biolife NZ extend into the infant formula market with the new Natrapure Infant Formula Range.

The collaboration combines the strengths of two leaders in the food and nutritional foods industry. It will build on the sales and marketing expertise of Biolife NZ, and the high quality processing capabilities and long term industry knowledge of Horchdorf Switzerland. The joint effort will offer a more exceptional processing capabilities, industry-leading product development and strong sales and marketing.This will allow a deeper customer reach for both enterprises as well as bridging New Zealand business to the world.

Hochdorf Group was founded in 1895. It has three production sites and employs more than 350 workers with headquarters based in the Swiss Town of Hochdorf. It is one of the leading foodstuff companies in Switzerland and a member of Swiss Milk Powder Association. Made from natural ingredients such as milk and wheat germ, Hochdorf products have been contributing to our health and wellbeing. Our customers include the food industry, the retail industry, bakeries and the catering trade. Our products are sold in over 80 countries such as Russia, Holland, Italy and China.
 

Company History


1895 Founding of the 1st Central Swiss natural milk exporting company by 21 members of the Hochdorf dairy co-operative with CHF 39,000 starting capital.

Product Range: 

Infant formula, baby and toddler foods, special dietary products: (allergen free formula, anti-reflux formula, sugar free formula and soy based formula), organic milk powder, pregnancy milk powder, protein powder, full milk powder, skimmed milk powder, cream, cocoa powder, wheat germ oil, bakery ingredients, fortifying drinks.


Production capacity

Raw milk production capacity in 2008 achieved 350,000 tons, which is 10% of the Swiss total raw milk production and was the second largest amongst all milk processing factories (following Emmi who the number one producer with main focus on liquid milk products; Nestle was placed the fifth). Total revenue reached CHF 2.832 billion.

In 2009, Hochdorf spent CHF 60 million to set up the state-of-art processing facility in Sulgen for the production of infant formula milk powder. The facility has been put into production in May, 2010 with annual production capacity of 20,000 tons.


Hochdorf experience in baby food

Hochdorf Group has been producing baby food for 100 years from 1908 to 2008. As a Swiss manufacturing company we offer a range of children's foods comprising baby milk an cereals (feeding bottles and purees).
Hochdorf started its business in baby formula in 1908 and in 1954, the first improved infant formula by Hochdorf received world-wide recognition.


Product Quality Standards

As a leading food enterprise, Hochdorf group is proud of the following standards of quality its products adhere to: BRC (British Retail Consortium), ISO9001:2000.

Infant foods research and development complies with the latest updates of EC in December 2006 on compliance with European health, safety and environment protection regulation, EC-Reg.EC178/2002 art.18 EU food product traceability system standards and GFSI (The Global Food Safety Initiative), WHO/FAO Codex Alimentarius (July, 2007) and advices from ESPGHAN (European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition).

Hochdorf has a full product quality control system with its own laboratory. Raw materials, semi-final products and final products from each batch are only released when the quality tests are passed in the internal laboratory and in the third party laboratory UFAG LABORATORIEN AG using approvd ISO/AOAC/FDA/IDF testing methods. Testing items include organoleptic properties, nutritional properties, microbiological properties and natural contaminants.
